Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit is a well-known Indian actor, known for her performances in the movies Beta Saajan and Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! Her career began acting during the 80s. She became famous for the movie Tezaab with veteran actor Anil Kooor. Her next film was the film Dil in which she was on screen alongside Aamir Khan. Born into a middle-class family in Mumbai she was able to learn dance at an early age. While still a teenager she tried her hand at acting, however most films she attempted to make did not succeed. The actress gained fame and was one of India's leading movie actresses. She took a break from her career due to her marriage, before going back to the world of entertainment. Dixit played an important role as a lead actress in Gulaab Gang, a film that explores the struggles of women in India. Dixit has been nominated for 15 Filmfare Awards, out of which she took home eight. Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian honour in India. Her social work is also well-known.
